We plan on leaving the Oregon area next spring to drive the 4,000 + mile journey through some of God's most beautiful country on the planet. I will be documenting our travels in a journal and will keep you all up-to-date on our adventures. At this time we have spent a lot of time on research.....just getting to know what the economy is like, the job situations, the culture and the local area layouts. The small, coastal communities seem to appeal to us the most, as we love the sea air, fishing, boating, river hiking and have spent most of our lives living on the Oregon Coast, salt-water runs in our veins. The Homer-Kenai Peninsula area is one of our favorite areas, we are still not sure what part of the vast state of Alaska we will be calling home...I think we will meander around, experience all we can, till we find that place that calls to us, our own special place. I will be adding links to pages of our progress as things develop...so check back for up-dates.

How large is Alaska?

Alaska is the largest state in the Union. It is 1/5th the size of the entire United States. It comprises 586,412 square miles or approximately 365,000,000 acres. There is 47,300 miles of coast line, 3 million lakes and more than 3,000 rivers. From it's East to West borders it is over 2,400 miles, and from North to South it is over 1,420 miles.

The Yukon River is the 3rd largest river in the United States. It travels 1,875 of its 2,298 miles in Alaska. It is exceeded only by the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.
